Bordeaux
The world’s pre-eminent fine wine region faces numerous challenges, including climate change and a creaking En Primeur model, but, arguably, its wines have never been better. Appellations such as Pauillac and Margaux on the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary remain a global reference point for Cabernet Sauvignon, while the majority of the world’s great Merlot hails from Saint-Emilion and Pomerol on the Right Bank. Prized for its freshness, Cabernet Franc is increasingly important throughout the region. And it’s not all about wines for laying down: Bordeaux’s Petit Châteaux are the source of some of the best value drinking whites and reds you will find.
