2023 Sancerre, Les Chailloux, Domaine Claude Riffault

Richly textured and voluptuous, but with the electrifying acidity that characterises all Stéphane’s wines – especially Les Chailloux, which hails from a cooler site with flinty soils (chailloux means flint in local dialect). Expect aromas of ripe citrus, elderflower and subtle hazelnut and toasty notes. Exceptionally, the ’23 underwent malo, contributing extra generosity on the mid-palate, as well as aromatic complexity. It tapers beautifully to a long, stony finish.
