2021 Mâcon Uchizy La Martine, Domaine Thevenard

Exciting and dynamic ‘new’ 12-hectare operation brought to life by brothers Matthieu and Gaëtan Thevenard, both in their thirties, who decided to return to the family property in Uchizy, just north of Mâcon. Grapes for this cuvée come from a single plot "A la Martine" in the commune of Uchizy. About thirty years old, the vines are located at an altitude of 260-300m and planted on a shallow clay-limestone soil with limestone dominance. Matthieu considers this plot as the best terroir of Uchizy, where some of the best expressions of the Chardonnay are to be found. This 2021 vintage is expressive, with a saline freshness and a beautiful length. With the devastating frosts of 2021, volumes have been much smaller and vines have produced fewer grapes than usual, concentrating acidity and flavours.
