2023 Mercurey 'Vieilles Vignes', Domaine Charton
Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France
Pierre Charton founded the domaine during World War II, in 1941. Today, it stands at 12 hectares and is run by Pierre’s grandson, Vincent, who succeeded his father Jean-Pierre a few years ago. Vincent works really hard in the vineyard, realising that the quality begins here. For this Mercurey Vieilles Vignes, the 50-year-old vines are in the southern part of the appellation, where there is a little more clay, which imparts more structure. With about 20% new oak and 30% whole-bunch, this wine offers delicate aromas of black fruits with a hint of sweet spices, simply delicious!
