2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Tradition Rouge, Domaine Bosquet des Papes
Southern Rhône, Rhône, France
As plush and hedonistic as you’d hope from Châteauneuf, with aromas of garrigue, red and black berries, and white pepper, yet with a level of detail and freshness that sets it apart from the majority of the appellation’s wines. As noted in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2025, the 2022 Cuvée Tradition possesses a ‘mineral spine (and) luminous finish’, making it a supremely moreish and food-friendly red. It is a classic blend of Grenache (75%), Syrah, Mourvèdre and a combined 3% of Vaccarèse, Counoise and Cinsault, sourced from vines averaging 50 years of age and grown on a mix of soils including galets roulés, clay and sand. Vinified in concrete and then raised in cask for 18 months, the ’22 is arguably the finest vintage we’ve tasted from Nicolas – a winemaker at the peak of his powers.
